Yarida - What is it?
It's the historical name of a village on the North Bank of River Gambia, West Africa. It is now called Toubakolong and has around 5000 inhabitants. | Why does it need friends?
Because it is one of those places that is difficult to reach:-
- without tarmac roads
- without electricity
- wells for drinking water
- no schools
- no medical centre / care
- few jobs
| Who are the "Friends of Yarida"?
They are 6 dynamic Gambians of different professions who feel obliged to help their fellow countrymen and improve the chances for a better future mainly of the young generation. Being Fathers and Mothers themselves they experienced very close the problems of everyday life and developed some ideas which they are about to realise. |
